Android Wear Monitor collects usage statistics of your smartwatch for research purposes. Logs of your smartwatch activity are collected while you use your smartwatch. Periodically the tracked logs are uploaded to our server at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, where information is storage securely.
What do we collect?
Android Wear Monitor collects the name of the smartwatch app used, date, duration, type of Internet connection (WiFi or Mobile Data) and location if it is available. Personal information transmitted through the app, such as text or images, is not collected to respect your privacy. In addition, when you open the app for the first time it requires you to fill some demographic information, including age, gender and education level among others.
However, the name of the user, his/her email or other personal information is not required or collected.
Why we collect smartwatch data?
Smartwatches are rather new devices, starting to be used by thousands of users worldwide. We would like to understand how people use smartwatches and what for. How users of different ages integrate actual and future apps in their everyday life, and how smartwatches earn their place in the everyday life.
How we will use this data?
We will use these data only for research purposes. Thus, analytical results, of the aggregated use of smartwatch are expected to be published in research conferences or journals. Your data will not be used for commercial purposes.
